Artwork
Are all the pieces of artwork you sell original/hand painted?
Yes . Unless specifically stated, all the artwork sold by us is 100% original & hand painted.
Do I receive any documentation when I purchase a piece of artwork from you?
Yes. A Certificate of Authentication/Proof of Purchase document is provided with every piece of artwork purchased from us.
What type of canvas is used?
Generally the canvases used (stretched or box as indicated) are vegan friendly, unbleached cotton canvases stapled to a sturdy wooden frame for support and are acid free and pre-primed with gesso, ensuring that the colour is held on the surface and will not seep through.
What mediums are used in the artwork?
Unless otherwise stated, all our pieces of artwork are created using acrylic spray-paint or a combination of this and standard acrylic potted paint.
Can I see additional photos or a video of a particular piece of artwork that I am interested in purchasing?
Yes. Additional photos or a video of the artwork can be provided upon request - please email us in advance with details of which piece(s) you would like to see more of!
Is the artwork protected with any kind of lacquer or varnish?
Unless otherwise stated we do not tend to protect the artwork in this way as we have encountered issues whereby the product used has reacted with the original paint application. In addition to this, we feel that the shiny/glazed surface can also detract from the original artwork - so unless specifically requested we do not apply any top coat protection (lacquer or varnish).
The canvas on which my artwork has been painted is slightly bent or uneven?
Unfortunately, although great care is taken to avoid using distorted canvases in the first instance, the application of numerous layers of paint, coupled with the retraction & expansion during heat/cold environmental pressures can occasionally result in an element of “bowing” within the wooden supporting framework of the canvas. This is a common & somewhat expected/accepted occurrence where original artwork painted on canvas is concerned.
The size of the canvas is not as described?
If you have purchased a piece of artwork and found that it does not have the measurements/dimensions originally described, please email us immediately upon receipt to discuss and keep all original packaging in case the item needs to be returned.
The colours in the painting I purchased do not look like they did on the website?
Occasionally colours can look different on a computer or phone depending on the screen resolution & display settings. If you believe the colours vary considerably to those expected, please email us immediately upon receipt to discuss and keep all original packaging in case the item needs to be returned.
Will purchased artwork be signed?
All artwork sold by us will come signed on the back of the canvas by the artist unless otherwise stated (or requested at time of ordering).
Do I receive any fixtures or fittings to hang my unframed artwork on the wall?
No. We do not provide any wall mounting fixtures for unframed canvases purchased from us.
Are prints of the artwork available to purchase?
We prefer to sell unique, original artwork but may occasionally release limited edition prints of specific (unsold) pieces.
Can I view the artwork in person prior to purchasing?
This will depend on your location but if local to us (Orpington, Kent) this can be arranged. Please email us for details.
Do you only sell artwork painted by Al Douglas?
Primarily the artwork sold by us is created by Al Douglas but occasionally we may add pieces produced by other upcoming artists to our sales catalogue. Unless specifically stated, all artwork for sale on the website has been created by Al Douglas.
Framing
What type of frames do you supply?
The wooden Tray/Floater style canvas frames that we use are manufactured by and purchased from a third party framework company. Canvas floater frames give the illusion the canvas you place in the frame is floating in the distinctive space within the frame. These frames are usually used if you want to display a gallery wrap canvas since the edge of the painting or the canvas print does not get covered, and displays the entirety of the canvas leaving nothing to the imagination. Canvas Floater Frames are supplied without any glazing or backing. If you would like your artwork framed in an alternative type of frame please email us in advance to discuss.
Do you only sell Black or White Frames?
We only keep Black and White frames in stock – however if you require something different please email us in advance to discuss. Other options are available upon request but please be aware that this will likely result in additional costs and extended delivery times.
Can I have a piece of artwork framed by you if the framing option is not available?
If a framing option is not available it means we do not currently have that size/colour frame in stock – so please email us in advance to discuss if framing is still required. Please note that this will likely result in additional costs and extended delivery times.
How is the canvas fitted to the frame?
The painted canvas will be fixed to the inner section of the floater frame using multiple Command/Adhesive Velcro strips in addition to framing tape.
The canvas does not fit flush to the frame or is slightly bent/uneven?
As outlined above, although great care is taken to avoid using distorted canvases in the first instance, the application of layers of paint or pressure applied can occasionally cause an element of “bowing” in a canvases wooden support frame. This is a common & somewhat expected/accepted factor that occurs with a lot of original artwork painted on canvas. We will always take great care when framing a piece of artwork and do all we can to ensure your painting looks as good as it can prior to sending out.
The frame has arrived damaged?
If the frame is damaged in anyway please email us immediately upon receipt and provide photos of the damage in question and we will look into how best to resolve the issue for you. Any damage must be reported to us within three days of delivery and all original packaging kept in case the item needs to be returned.
The canvas has come unstuck from the frame?
If the canvas has come unstuck from the frame during transportation please email us immediately upon receipt and provide photos to illustrate the issue. For any issues of this nature occurring after initial delivery, please email us to discuss how best to resolve the matter.
Do I receive any fixtures to hang my framed artwork on the wall?
Yes - standard wall mounting fixtures are provided (that come with the frame direct from the third party frameworks company)
